Symi, sunniest island of Greece

One of the smallest but most renowned islands of the Dodecanese archipelago , Symi, was in fact totally unknown to us until a few months ago. Yialos harbour It was only after a quite desperate research for a warm European destination in October, that we found out this little paradise in the Mediterranean offering, even late in the year, sunny days and warm and calm waters...so that sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling in mid/late October is even more enjoyable than in the hottest summer months. Symi island Symi is easily reachable from Rhodes (that has an international airport) via a 75 minutes ferry. The island is fairly small and it is easy to get around both on foot or by scooter. Some beaches are only accessible via boat and a taxi boat service is available daily from the harbour and is not too expensive. “As you set out for Ithaka hope your road is a long one full of adventure, full of discovery." Sometimes the journey is more important and fulfilling than the actual destination, but in Ithaka, that's not the case! Indeed, this little Greek island, is a real paradise on earth, but, strangely enough, finding information on the web has been quite difficult. Probably because the island is quite unspoiled and definitely away from mass tourism. And this is one of the reasons why we liked it so much, in addition to the secluded pebble beaches and the deep blue and crystalline sea waters. The seabed is full of variously sized fishes, and snorkeling is the best way to spend your time! The island shape is a bit funny, looking like a two small islands kept together by a thin stretch of land.
